Changelog voice

Every draft ChangelogPilot writes is written in a voice. You choose it once, per repo, in the repo's settings under Changelog voice — and every entry after that sounds consistent, whoever merged the PR.

Personas — every plan

A persona is the "who is this for, and why" frame the writing takes. There are six, and picking one is free on every plan:

• Plain Reporter (the default) — just the facts, stated plainly. "Added CSV export to the reports screen."
• Product Storyteller — frames each change as something the reader can now do.
• Support Companion — reassures readers that the bug that hit them is fixed.
• Engineer's Notes — precise developer-facing notes; keeps API and migration detail.
• Growth Advocate — benefit-led framing for readers deciding whether to upgrade.
• Onboarding Coach — step-by-step guidance for readers adopting a feature.

Each persona brings sensible structural defaults with it, so choosing one is a complete decision — you don't have to touch anything else.

Industry presets — Pro

An industry preset tells the writing how to handle your field's vocabulary — when to keep jargon, when to translate it, and which terms your readers already know. Presets cover devtools, fintech, healthcare, e-commerce, data and AI, edtech, agtech, and telecom, plus a general default.

Voice DNA — Pro

Voice DNA is the fine tuning under the persona:

• Format — bullets, short paragraphs, a single sentence, or numbered steps.
• Verbosity — terse, standard, or detailed.
• Emphasis — lead with features, benefits, technical detail, or fixes.
• Tone — four sliders, each rated 1–5: funny, formal, respectful, and enthusiastic. 3 is balanced; move a slider only when you want the writing to lean.
• Locale — optionally pin the output to US, British, or Australian English.

There's no free-text field anywhere in voice settings — every control is a fixed choice, so nothing you type can leak into the writing instructions.

Preview before you save

The voice page can regenerate your most recent entry in whatever is currently selected, so you can hear a persona or a tone change before committing to it. Nothing is saved until you press Save.

When the voice applies

The voice is applied when a draft is generated. Changing it affects entries drafted from then on; already-drafted and already-published entries keep their text. Entries you write yourself with "New entry" are published word-for-word — no voice is applied to your own writing.

If you downgrade

Your chosen persona keeps applying — personas are free. The industry preset and voice DNA stop applying, but your settings are kept and take effect again when you're back on Pro.
